17y/o staying in an Airbnb for summer internship if father books and stays for part of the trip?

Hi everyone,

I live in the Northeast US and have a 2-4 week long summer internship opportunity this summer in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida (about a half hour drive from Fort Lauderdale). I am 17 years old and my parents and I are trying to figure out some housing options.

I am aware of the rule that states a minor cannot create an Airbnb account or book a stay; however, I was curious if my father booked the stay, and stayed with me for part of the stay (he can't stay the whole time of course as he has a job), I would be allowed to stay in the Airbnb alone for the rest of my internship?

Is it the sort of thing where it's up to the host whether they deem me responsible enough to stay alone? (I am very responsible and would be out of the apartment for most of the stay working). Or is this just not allowed at all?

Thank you!

Officially this is not allowed as minors staying alone are not covered by Airbnb's insurance and violate the company's terms of service.  Also, 3rd party reservations are not allowed on Airbnb. This is a little more grey since, as you say, your father would be staying part of the time.  You may find a host willing to put themselves at risk and accept your situation, in violation of Airbnb's policies, but be aware, that means you are also not covered by their insurance as a minor cannot enter into a legal contract, which is what a reservation is on Airbnb.
