Guest couldn't split payments - why?

I'm a new Host in the UK and I recently had a large group of guests book (my property sleeps 23).

They wanted to choose Split Payments but apparently it didn't work - I'm not sure exactly how it didn't work, but does anyone know why it wouldn't have worked for any reason? Does it depend on the payment card used or something?

Also - when you splt payments, does Air Bnb split the amount exactly equally between the number of people booking, or can the guest choose how much each person pays (i.e. if a couple in the group are bringing their kids, maybe they want to pay a bigger share than a couple without kids?)

Thanks.

@Harriet33 Here is Airbnb's instruction on it:

If it didn't go right, you have to contact Airbnb directly.

lpDo you know if Airbnb stopped this option? The help page is no longer available.

@Polly56Splitting payments between guests was discontinued last year, yes.

 @Polly56

We have Pay less upfront now but I don't think multiple guests can use it
