My host canceled my reservation and Airbnb sent me a payment credit that it said was available to use immediately for another booking. However, I just made another reservation and it still billed my credit card. Nowhere was there an option to use my credit. Why? How do I get it to use the credit?

Please note that credit given out of Airbnb's pocket normally has a life span so be sure to check it has not expired as yet.
