I can't register my USA credit card from the UK!

I'm in the UK and just booked an airbnb in the USA. I have a US bank account and credit cards but it refused to accept either card. It looks like it's complaining that my billing address is UK though the card is US. I changed the billing currency on my account to USD but without being able to add my cards it all becomes pointless. In the end I was charged in UKP (even though I selected USD). 

Is there a way to get a card added to the account via a human or some other way that will work? First time in 20 years I've found a site that can't cope with this situation 😞
