Fixed vs floating

I would appreciate reading feedback from those of you who use or who have used a floating charge for your listing.  I started off using a fixed charge then converted to the floating charge.  As you know, they ask you to set a minimum and maximum charge.  They even recommend a range.  It seems no matter what range you select they put you at the bottom of the range.  I understand there is a balance between the number of reservations and and the room rate.  So how has it worked for you?  Do you think one needs to consider perceived value, i.e., if your rate is way below your competition do you think the potential renter will think there is something wrong with your place?  I've had some friends in sales have experieinced an increase business after raising their price.

Thank you in advance for you feedback.
