Booking to Minors

Hi All,

I have a pending request from an 18-year-old to stay with three friends for a post-Prom weekend. I have a lot of experience with teens (I was a teacher), so I don't have an irrational fear of them. But, where I live, hosting an event where there is (or may be) underage drinking makes the host liable for any injuries and criminal charges as well. I don't know the laws specifically in Vermont, where the rental is. What is your experience? What would you do?

Thanks,

Jim

An 18 year old is not a minor. They are an adult.

You are not hosting an event, you are hosting individuals.

Just add it into your house rules that only over 21s can bring alcohol into your premises.

Hopefully you already have house rules regarding no parties and no-one on the premises who hasn't booked and paid.

I have an 'irrational fear' of very young people with a cause to celebrate (aka drinking), based on past experience; the odds against me are way too high for everything to go somewhat 'normal'.  😉

I would never host a group of teens. Yes, 18 is an adult, but they are not supervising 17 year olds. Far too much liabilty
