Is pre-approval always necessary?

I've been receiving various requests for discounts, long term stays etc. where the guest uses random booking dates to send me a question.

Must I pre-approve or decline these dates?

If I chose to not pre-approval or decline (having responded to their messages) will this reflect on my performance as a host?

@Tina139  To my knowledge, if you receive an INQUIRY, simply replying to the message within 24 hours satisfies the response requirement.  If you receive a RESERVATION REQUEST, you must Accept or Decline within 24 hours to satisfy the response requirement. 

Just write something back, no need to preapprove or anything.
