fireplace damage

The guest built a fire in the fireplace and said that a log fell and hit the glass causing it to break. Should they be held responsible to fix the broken fireplace cover glass?

I’m inclined to say yes, but good luck getting them to actually pay.

Bad luck with that. I'm not sure I would try to charge. One, it will be very difficult to get Airbnb to see your side, but I tend to see this sort of 'wear and tear' as part of the job. I try to factor in unavoidable breakages into my pricing. With fires, people just don't know how to use them and unless you can spend time showing each guest, you've either got to stop them using it or accept there may be damage.

I may change my mind when something expensive gets broken! We've only had glasses/ bowls, that sort of thing. And some kitchen items stolen.

Hi @Russell52, between your home insurance and AirBnB, you will surely be covered... question also would be what is your deductible?  Unless yours is really low, might be 'cheaper' in the long run to handle this yourself and chalk it up to experience.

Just a thought.

Best,
