Why are banks outside of South Africa charging so much for service fees

I recently hosted a lovely guest from the US. He paid over the normal fee but when it come into my account the US banks deducted R100 as a service charge. This makes hosting on a one day period unprofitable for me. Can anyone shed some light on this. Has anyone had a similar problem. How can I resolve it. Thanks very much.

Hi @Patrick-And-Barbara0

Yes the banks do charge, its not the US banks though, its your local SA bank that charges the fee. You should change your payout amount to a higher value so that you first accumulate some cash with airbnb and then they do it in one payment, thus only getting charged the R100 once.

Alternatively, look at the payoneer payout option as well.
