I have had guests show up who thought the place was entirely for them and now I am  issuing them a refund.

The problem is, i wanted it listed for one week in October as the entire place but  it must have set to the whole time..

Any tips suggestions on how to smooth this over besides offering a refund

Your plan would not work unless you have two separate listings.

Your listing says it is an entire home, so I can see how your guest would be confused.  If you would like to have it as a room sometimes and the whole house other times, you need to make two listings.
